Answers from problem # 15

(a)
(i) Fundamental postulates of the Plank’s quantum theory.
i. Any radiation should be associated with energy.
ii. The energy is released in the form of radiation, that occurs in small discrete packets called quanta.
iii.The energy is directly proportion to the frequency of radiation.

(ii) The term wave-particle duality nature of an electron.
According to de Broglie's concept of matter, i.e. matter has a dual nature(two form). Mean while matter is in motion displays wave properties, then at rest shows particle properties. So is an electron, The behaviours of the electron does not allow, for it to be observable as a wave. The two sided nature of the electron is known as the Wave-Particle Duality.

(iii) The uncertainty principle states that. “It is impossible to determine both the position and momentum of electron simultaneously with greater accuracy.”

(b) Given:
Wavelength, λ=5.89E-5cm. Required; Energy,E.
Solution:
Recall, plank's expression of energy.
E=hc/λ
Where;c,constant speed of electromagnetic radiation=3.0E8cm,
h,plank's constant=6.63E-34Js-¹

E=6.63E-34Js-¹×3.0E8cm
                 5.89E-5cm
     =3.377E-21Joules.
.: The energy of a photon of radiation is 3.377Joules.
